Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Mon Petit Oiseau

Tracy Wilkinson, an English designer who now resides in Los Angeles, wove a touch of France through the Fall 2003 sportswear collection of Mon Petit Oiseau, shown on April 2 at the Downtown Standard Hotel.

Wilkinson’s love of French style harkens back to the days when she and her family spent their summers in Brittany in northwestern France. In English, her company’s name means “My Little Bird,” and she embroidered an avian symbol on several of the pieces she showed on the runway.

Wilkinson’s collection was a mix of simple lines and clean looks. There was a passel of miniskirts—some plain, some striped, some denim and some satin—that had a certain school-girl air. These the designer paired with oversize alpaca/cotton sweaters and opaque leggings. Striped eyelet shirts, long tees and satiny sweat shirts topped long skirts that brushed past ankles.

Wilkinson also mixed in a new line of intimatewear that included everything from tanks to camisoles to pink birdie panties. —Deborah Belgum
