Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott’s public-relations firm is doing a great job of turning up the hype full-throttle for the new–to–Los Angeles designer. Scott’s April 3 show at the Palace nightclub in Hollywood drew a massive crowd—and everyone in it was trying to catch the eye of the PR staffer with the guest list.

In one of the evening’s surreal moments, On Beverly buyer Shauna Stein, tried to explain to the keeper of the list that she was a retailer who was there to see the clothing hellip; you know, to maybe buy the clothing. Once inside, those with wristbands were ushered onto the dance floor, where tables were set up cabaret-style in front of a large movie screen. Everyone else milled about the upper floors enjoying cocktails and the chance to people-watch.

Meanwhile, the real show was out on the red carpet near the entrance, where show organizers turned the fashion press into paparazzi as models and celebs mugged for the cameras and fielded questions from the designer. It was pure guerilla theater—served up for the fashion crowd. —Alison A. Nieder
