Shoe Suit

A federal court jury ruled in favor of Cels Enterprises Inc.—the Los Angeles–based maker of Chinese Laundry, Passports and On Your Feet shoes—in a suit the shoemaker filed against Geac Enterprise Solutions’ Geac Computer Corp. division. Cels claimed the Toronto-based provider of software systems, auxiliary services and support defrauded the company into purchasing and implementing its Style and Fashion Footwear software products. When Cels implemented the software in late 1999, it interfered with the company’s orders and shipments and caused “substantial losses both to its branded and private-label business,” according to a Cels statement. The jury found Geac guilty of fraudulent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, negligent misrepresentation, breach of contract and breach of warranty.
