Gerber Expands Operations South of the Border

Tolland, Conn.-based Gerber Technology has appointed Tecnologiacute;a de la Informacioacute;n en Sistemas Administrativos (TISA) as its newest sales and service agent in Mexico. The company will be responsible for sales and service of Gerber CAD/CAM and other products on Mexico’s Yucataacute;n Peninsula.

Gerber now has seven offices in Mexico. The company has also expanded its Central American customer-service operations with the recent opening of a full-service center in Honduras.

“TISA has a strong history of providing extraordinary customer service,” said Joseph Finelli, Gerber’s regional director for Latin America. “Their highly qualified technical staff will enhance responsiveness to Gerber’s broad customer base throughout southeastern Mexico.”

Luis Miguel Godinez, chief executive officer of TISA, said: “We have served Mexico’s Yucataacute;n region for several years in various strategic areas. In partnering with Gerber, we can now offer a complete and affordable solution for our customers involved in the transition to full-package operations. Gerber’s product-development and quick-response manufacturing tools are the best available for high-, medium- and low-volume manufacturers in Yucataacute;n.”

James Arthurs, president of Gerber Technology, said there has been a sense of urgency to step up technology south of the border to prepare for the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) elimination of trade quotas in January 2005.

“We are currently working feverishly with many organizations throughout Mexico and Central America to help them improve automation in their operations,” he said. “When the WTO abolishes trade quotas and free trade intensifies, we want to be sure our customers are well-equipped to compete. With additional resources in Mexico and Honduras, we can be even more responsive to our customers’ needs.”

Arthurs said Gerber’s market share of CAD/CAM solutions installed in Mexico is roughly 50 percent and is much higher in the Central American countries. The company currently serves approximately 600 customers operating more than 2,000 systems and workstations in the region. —Robert McAllister
