Retail Group Forming Tech Committee

The International Mass Retail Association (IMRA), based in Arlington, Va., is forming a new committee that will explore the technology needs of retailers through meetings with retail executives and information- technology decision makers.

The new committee, the Retail IT Leaders Council, has set its first meeting for April 4–6 at the Fairmont Dallas in Texas and will convene several times a year. The group is opening the council to chief information officers, vice presidents and other operations managers and is free to IMRA members.

Attendees will discuss project implementation, establish retail-industry technology requirements, advise the vendor community and create forums that enhance cooperation between retailers and the companies that make the goods they sell, said an IMRA spokesperson.

IMRA members represent more than $1 trillion in sales annually and operate more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers nationwide. The organization also provides industry research and education and government advocacy services. For more information, email: itleaders@imra.org. —Robert McAllister
