Cynthia Hart Launches E-commerce Site

Los Angeles-based handbag designer Cynthia Hart has re-launched her Web site as an e-commerce site.

The Web site currently has links to five groups—“Embellished,” “Ruffles,” “Themes,” “Old Hollywood” and “Easy Rider”—and features 26 styles, including handbags, totes, makeup bags and coin purses. The Web site, designed and maintained by Mike Dooley Productions, will eventually carry Hart’s full collection at suggested retail prices.

The Web site is designed to complement Hart’s existing distribution in specialty stores and department stores such as Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, Bloomies by Mail, Burdines, Rich’s, Belks and Parisian. Hart said she plans to expand the site to include retail referrals.

“We are designing a page that lists the retailers that carry my handbag line and their locations for the consumers who prefer to shop the old-fashioned way—in person,” said Hart. “I would like to link the retailers’ sites to mine. I feel this will be a win-win situation for all of us.”

The 5-year-old company is also launching a marketing and publicity campaign that will link the Web site to other fashion-related sites, said Hart. —Alison A. Nieder
