Michael Stars on the Expansion Trail

T-shirt specialist Michael Stars Inc., which makes apparel for sale at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and other major retail chains, is expanding into a new 42,000-square-foot corporate office and distribution center based in the Los Angeles suburb of Hawthorne.

Michael Stars employs about 120 workers who produce everything from tees, crews and innerwear for more than 750 stores including its own based in Manhattan Beach.

The 16-year-old, privately held company previously designed, produced and distributed its branded novelty T-shirts at its 21,000-square-foot facility in Gardena, Calif.

The new space will house approximately 6,500 square feet of office space, while the remaining 35,500 square feet will be used for storage and distribution. The new building features a truck-high cross-dock brick warehouse and more than two acres of excess land for vehicle and truck parking.

All the employees will relocate to the new facility at 12955 Chandron Ave. within a few weeks, according to the company.

The company signed a 7-year, $2 million lease for the new facility, according to brokers in the deal Luke Staubitz and Harvey Beesen of The Klabin Co., which represented landlord D.S.A. Properties, LP. Robert McAllister and Claudia Figuroa
