The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) will honor Saks Department Store Group president and chief executive officer George L. Jones, designer Diane von Furstenberg, Fashion Institute of Technology chief curator Dr. Valerie Steele and Dana Reeve, wife of actor Christopher Reeve at the AAFA 25th annual American Image Awards in New York on May 19. This year’s event will benefit the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Foundation and will be co-hosted by AAFA chairman Paul R. Charron, chairman and CEO of Liz Claiborne Inc., and a celebrity emcee. Jones will receive the Retailer of the Year award and von Furstenberg will be named Designer of the Year. Steele will receive the Artistry of Fashion award and Reeve will receive the Spirit of a Woman award for her work on behalf of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center, a research facility she co-founded with her husband. The AAFA American Image Awards was created to recognize leadership and achievement in retail and design. Each year, the event raises funds for a notable charity.
