Tukatech Starts Online Marker, Data Services

Tukatech Inc.’s TukaWeb division, based in Los Angeles, is offering pattern making, grading and marker making over the Internet along with data conversion and 3-D draping services.

The new services, accessible through Tukaweb.com, allow customers to send their manual or CAD data and receive patterns in a variety of CAD languages within 24 hours. TukaWeb’s new data conversion services start at $10 each, with turnaround times at a 12-hour maximum.

In addition, Tukatech chief executive officer Ram Sareen said the company has launched a Web-based 3-D modeling feature that allows customers to e-mail pattern pieces along with a swatch of fabric, which is draped onto a 3-D model. Any and all adjustments to the garment can be made through TukaWeb and reviewed by the customer via the Internet, said Sareen. This allows the customer to eliminate the need for numerous real samples of the same style.

The services are supported by workers at Tukatech bases around the globe.

“Soon we will have 450 pattern makers working three shifts in our Asian headquarters in New Delhi, and we plan to add more operators in China and Vietnam within the next 12 months,” said Peter Tredwin, chief operating officer for TukaWeb.

Added Tukatech customer Bill Tolcher, vice president of Stony Apparel and Great Escape, “This is a real blessing. It is reducing our cycle time, saving us money and we are able to give quality patterns to our vendors.” —Robert McAllister
