Scharff Purchases Dreamgirl

Apparel veteran Christopher Scharff has purchased Lovin’ Enterprises Inc.—maker of lingerie, costumes and clubwear for Culver City, Calif.–based Dreamgirl— for an undisclosed amount.

Scharff has purchased 100 percent of the company’s stock from Dreamgirl’s President and Founder Patricia Fischer, according to a company spokeswoman.

Scharff has been in the apparel industry for more than 20 years. He worked first for Lanz Inc., the sleepwear and dresses company founded by his father, and, more recently, for St. John Knits and BCBGMaxAzria.

“We intend to grow the business through design, leadership, and by broadening our product offering and increasing our new product introductions,” Scharff said. “We plan to aggressively expand our international and domestic distribution.”

Currently, Dreamgirl is sold in more than 1,800 retail stores throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Japan.

Fischer, who previously worked at Playgirl, started the lingerie company 25 years ago. In 1986, Lovin’ Enterprises launched its branded-lingerie line, Dreamgirl. The company’s manufacturing facilities are in the Los Angeles area. Fischer will remain with the company as president and will focus on product development. Scharff will head up sales and marketing for the company, said a company spokeswoman.
