New Line Is Fun, Flirty and Feminine

Feminine styling and comfort are the two key ingredients of (EM).

The fresh, feminine line of tops and coordinating bottoms launched during Los Angeles Market Week.

Mara Castaneda, former designer for Hale Bob and Jane Doe, teamed up with Debra Castiglione, former sales rep for Jane Doe, to create the new line.

“I think women are ready to dress more feminine now—comfortable feminine,” Castaneda said. “I think they want something special.”

While chic and modern, the designs feel like individual collectible pieces inspired by eras from the 1900s to the present. For Castaneda, it’s all in the mix. The designer uses knits for comfort and blends them with wovens for added interest.

The tops are made with a mixture of fabrics––including cotton jersey, cotton/Modal rayon/Lycra blends, 2x1 ribs, pointelles and beaded varieties––and then trimmed and embellished with silk chiffons, charmeuse and imported laces.

Details such as brooches, beading and handkerchief hems are added to create unique styles with a sophisticated, feminine touch. Tops in soft pastels, black and white, and cool citrus palettes come in silhouettes such as bustiers, tanks, wrap tops, tunics and tunics over matching tube tops.

Coordinating skirts are offered in sheer cotton jersey, as well as a cotton/Modal rayon/Lycra blend with ruched sides, handkerchief hems and coordinating trims. Leggings with roll-down waists and ruching are available in a cotton/Modal rayon/Lycra blend.

Wholesale price points are $25 to $65 for tops, $35 to $45 for skirts and $25 to $35 for leggings. The line is geared toward better specialty boutiques. Spring deliveries will take place from Jan. 30 to March 30.
