L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Eduardo Lucero

Eduardo Lucero has built a following among Hollywood starlets—and women who just want to dress up in sexy and ultra-feminine fashions.

The Los Angeles designer, who had staged several solo shows before at Audi Presents Designer Collections of Los Angeles Fashion Week in 2001 and at Smashbox Fashion Week last April, showed his Spring 2004 collection on Oct. 30 at Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A. The collection offered baroque-influenced elegance, ideal for walking red carpets that lead to a Hollywood premiere.

Dresses were swathed in layers of satin, crepe and Chantilly lace. Details included brocade bustiers, lace appliqueacute;s, ruffled sleeves and shimmering satin sheens. The designer accented a palette of champagne and black with a few pieces in lipstick red and teal blue.

Lucero’s stunning evening gowns were tailored for the modern aristocrat of taste, but the designer showed he could design for the modern woman who’s just a princess at heart. Taking casual staples such as capri pants and off-the-shoulder tops, plus masculine pieces such as motorcycle jackets, Lucero turned them elegant and feminine in satin and lace. —C.M.C.
