L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Lure

David Bowie–meets–Gidget was the theme behind Lure’s first fashion show, held on Oct. 29 at Smashbox Fashion Week, according to Los Angeles–based designer Jamie Lauren.

On the runway, preps and punks demonstrated Lauren’s California concept, which included casual knits with piping and reverse seams or ribbon details. For the preps, white shorts and minis were topped with sweet plaid shirts with raw-edged seams. For the new wave set, off-the-shoulder slash-back sweat shirts came in totally rad colors such as fuchsia and turquoise. A perforated white leather group with chunky athletic-rib trim in black and red gave off a street-chic vibe. Also strong were Lauren’s stretch-twill pieces, cut lean and sexy in conservative black and white or glammed up as in a hot-pink pencil skirt.

For Lauren, the invitation to show at Smashbox Studios in Culver City was the perfect opportunity to take her 11/2-year-old line to the next level.

“I’m ready to let everyone know we’re here,” she said. —A.A.N.
