Los Angeles–based T-shirt maker American Apparel Inc. has launched an organic cotton line called Sustainable Edition.
Six of the company’s styles will be offered in 100 percent combed organic cotton, including the “Girly Basic,” the “Girly Fine Jersey,” the “Boy Beater” tank, the “Thong,” the “Standard American Fine Jersey” T-shirt and the “Infant Lap” Tshirt. All will be available in the fabric’s natural color.
By next year, American Apparel expects to shift 20 percent of its cotton consumption to U.S.-made organic cotton. The company announced plans to offer 80 percent of its items in organic cotton by 2007.
