Going Into Overdrive With New Juniors Line

Global Clothing Network Inc. launched Overdrive, a branded juniors division, in November 2002. Global Clothing, an 18-year-old domestic wovens importer and private-label manufacturer based in Secaucus, N.J., has also launched a young men’s line under the Overdrive label.

Overdrive’s juniors line is known for its woven tops with different textures and added-value details, such as cutouts, lace inserts, washes, embroidery, trims and special closures.

“The strength, as far as the market is concerned, is our yarn-dye textures and our development in newer fabrications that we are constantly moving forward on,” said owner Micky Mehta. “That is where our niche is in the market.”

In just 11 months, the company has opened doors at Federated Department Stores Inc., The May Department Stores Co., Charlotte Russe Inc., Rampage, Forever 21 Inc., The Wet Seal Inc. and Tilly’s.

Styles for tops include camisoles and tanks, as well as short-sleeved, three-quarter-sleeve and longsleeved shirts. Tops are made in a variety of fabrics, including yarn-dyed striped voiles and yarn-dyed plaids, textured voiles, Swiss dot fabrics, seersucker plaids, dobbies, prints with cutouts, stretch poplin, cotton, and cotton blends. Details such as embroidery, lace inserts and smocking are then added.

Bottom styles include skirts, pants, cropped pants and shorts. Bottoms feature four groups: plaids and stretch plaids; vintage-wash looks on fabrics such as baby corduroy, lightweight poplin, destroyed-wash 7-ounce twill and herringbone twill; stretch twills with clean lines and hardware for an edgy look; and stretch sateens in Mod or sleek styles with contrasting piping.

The company will also offer lightweight jackets in coated poplins and twills for Spring.

Wholesale prices will run from $6 to $16 for tops, $8 to $20 for bottoms and $12 to $16 for jackets.

Global Clothing produces new groups every six weeks and plans to add a knit division in the future. The Overdrive showroom is located in suite A804 in the California Market Center.
