L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott’s “Sexybition” show at Smashbox Studios in Culver City had the crowds clamoring for a vantage point. Scott designed the set and the costumes for his exhibition, which was inspired by peep shows and strip clubs.

The Kansas City–born Los Angeles transplant, whose recent endeavors include not only fashion design but also a directorial debut with the satirical soap-opera-esque short film “Starring,” said: “Creativity is not contained in a vessel. You can pour it into different glasses.”

The show consisted of 11 themed viewing booths with models dressed in sexy and sometimes graphic costumes role-playing sexual fantasies, imitating sexual icons and spoofing religious themes. Some of the parts included a ’50s housewife, a teacher, a ballerina, a nun, and Adam and Eve.

The show also featured celebrities, such as socialites Paris and Nikki Hilton, who were dressed in Little Bo Peep and lamb costumes, and actress Lisa Marie, who was chained up in a medieval dungeon.

Scott said the purpose of his show was to have fun. He added: “Most of the pieces relate to the custom work that I do for celebrities. Creating a theme reflects the genre of what I do. I do these types of things for celebrities for music videos and concerts.” —N.J.S.
