MAGIC's Girly Show

From white denim to pink swimsuits to nearly neon brights, the styles were feminine and flirty at the WWDMAGIC “Style File” fashion show held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center during MAGIC International.

The show kicked off Spring with six key trends: “Girlie Girls,” “Denim,” “Gotta Have It,” “Tickled Pink,” “Mini Me” and “Body Heat.”

“Girlie Girls” combined feminine looks—such as vintage-print florals, ruffles, crinoline and polka dots—with modern bandeau-style tops, floral-print capris and multi-floral paisley prints.

Denim lightened up with many designers showing denim looks in white, including strapless jumpsuits and two-piece denim suits with painted logos and lace-up details. Other looks included miniskirts, denim with blocked letters, and pin-striped denim jackets with matching skirts and pants.

Sweats and leisure styles were the highlights of the “Gotta Have It” group. Looks were again feminine with fashion-driven sweat styles in a palette of tangerine, turquoise and lemon. Short shapes, one-shoulder styles, velour, crinkled satins and florals were flashy and colorful on the runway.

From pastel to fuchsia, “Tickled Pink” showcased pink as the strongest color statement for Spring. Designers showed pink gingham-print bikinis, fishnet tops, jeweled tanks, pink hot pants, matching pink tops and bottoms, and even a bubble-gum warm-up set with a pink “Kitty” T-shirt.

The show highlighted miniskirts as the shape of the season. “Mini Me” featured ’80s-inspired, pleated, denim and leather styles and feminine looks with lace trims, ruffles and crinoline.

“Body Heat” wrapped up the show with a mixture of delicate, feminine chiffons and sexy, colorful looks. Bright, bold color blocking—in shades of orange, fuchsia, chartreuse and violet—flattered layered, asymmetric and draped styles in silk charmeuse and other body-skimming fabrics. —N. Jayne Seward
