L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Oligo Tissew

Designer Christopher Enuke used a bevy of dyed yarns and a range of novelty denim fabrications in his Fall 2004 Oligo Tissew for Oliver Twist collection , which bowed on April 2 at Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.

Enuke grew up in the United Kingdom before moving to Los Angeles, where he launched his knitwear collection, Oliver Twist. One of the founding members of the Coalition of Los Angeles Designers, Enuke showed his Oligo Tissew line in Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion runway show last November.

For Fall ’04, Enuke dubbed his 35-piece collection “Form & Function” and filled it with knits made with alpaca and angora yarns, as well as engineered sportswear pieces made from denim and twill. A long olive crochet sweater with tulip-shaped sleeves, a purple crochet skirt worn with a novelty T-shirt and pin-tucked denim jacket, and an orange asymmetrical crochet dress were just a few eclectic and striking styles offered. Enuke layered each outfit with handcrafted and artfully made knit scarfs and ponchos and accessorized the ensembles with large African-inspired necklaces by Gabriela Artigas. —C.F.
