IMG to Co-Sponsor Toronto Fashion Week

The Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC) is partnering with IMG to produce Toronto Fashion Week, set to bow Sept. 20–25.

IMG Canada is the Canadian arm of IMG, one of the world’s largest sports, leisure, and entertainment marketing and management companies. Fashion is a focal point for IMG, which produces runway shows for 7th on Sixth and Olympus Fashion Week in New York and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles. IMG is also the publisher of The Daily, the tongue-in-cheek fashion tabloid that highlights local designers and celebrity turnouts during fashion weeks on both coasts. Recently, IMG added a model-management division, IMG Models, to its operations.

“We have been expanding our fashion and lifestyle-related activities around the world, and Toronto Fashion Week is an important part of this,” said Fern Mallis, executive director of 7th on Sixth and vice president of IMG Fashion, in a press statement. “Our involvement with some of the world’s biggest fashion events, combined with our international expertise, enables us to bring new resources to Toronto Fashion Week.”

Founded in 1999, FDCC will manage all aspects of the event under the direction of its president, Robin Kay. IMG will be in charge of sales, according to an IMG spokeswoman. —Claudia Figueroa
