California Design Biennial Seeks Designers

The Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) is once again looking for fashion designers to include in its California Design Biennial, set to open in May 2005.

Last year, items from Cornell Collins, Petro Zillia, Nikolaki, Trina Turk, Magda Berliner, Jeremy Scott, Ina Celaya, Josh & He Yang and Alice Park were featured alongside examples of California furniture, graphic design, transportation and consumer product design from companies including Apple Computers Inc., BMW and the Nokia Corp.

The exhibition was created to “raise awareness of California’s role as an international design center, while exploring the ways design impacts and inspires everyday life.”

The fashion segment will feature individual clothing items, ensembles or accessories. Items must have been designed within the past two years.

Applications will be mailed upon request. The deadline for entries is Nov. 20. The competition is open to any California designer or student enrolled in an accredited California school. The cost to enter is $50 for individual submissions; additional entries are $35 each. The cost for students is $25. There will be an additional $25 charge for entries postmarked after Nov. 20. Entries postmarked after Nov. 30 will not be accepted.

Each entry must include a signed copy of the entry form, a CD-ROM with up to three high-resolution images (300 dpi or higher) and a MicrosoftWord document describing each item in 100 words or fewer.
