Leslie Fay Closes

New York–based misses manufacturer Leslie Fay Co. Inc. abruptly shuttered and fired all of its employees. The company emerged from bankruptcy protection in 1997 after an accounting scandal forced the manufacturer to seek Chapter 11 protection. Leslie Fay’s brands include updated sportswear line Cynthia Steffe; dress lines Leslie Fay, David Warren and D.W. Studio; and eveningwear labels Reggio and Rimini. Until last year, the company also held the license for Liz Claiborne’s dress line, which has since been acquired by the Kellwood Co. Executives with the Cynthia Steffe division announced the label is still operating and no employees have been let go.
