Kellwood's Phat Deal
St. Louis–based apparel maker Kellwood Co. has acquired New York–based Phat Fashions, makers of the Phat Farm, Baby Phat and Phat labels. Phat Fashions founder Russell Simmons and his wife, Baby Phat founder and designer Kimora Lee Simmons, will remain with the company. Hal J. Upbin, Kellwood chairman and chief executive officer, said Kellwood has been studying the urban apparel market and called Phat Farm and Baby Phat “the crown jewels of the urban business.”
