On Beverly Heads to Sunset

Since 2000, Shawna Stein has brought her special touch to couture at her boutique On Beverly. Now the veteran retailer is bringing On Beverly to Sunset Boulevard.

Stein recently confirmed she will rename the store On Sunset when she moves the boutique in early March to the Sunset Plaza, on the 8700 block of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, Calif., occupying the space previously leased by Kenzo.

Stein said she decided to leave the wellproportioned 5,000-square-foot boutique on the corner of Beverly Boulevard and San Vincente after enough of her clients told her the block did not fit their shopping patterns. They wanted a boutique on a major street with easy access to parking and their favorite restaurants and hair salons.

“People value convenience,” Stein said. “They’re working so much, their lifestyles are so packed with activity that they have less time to travel. It’s stupid not to react to changes in their lives. You have to do what the clients want, and you have to have the vision of how shopping patterns are changing.”

With many of her clients hailing from the Los Angeles communities of Pacific Palisades, Beverly Hills, Brentwood and the Hollywood Hills, Stein said her new 2,800-square-foot shop, on Sunset between La Cienega and San Vincente, is a onestop destination neighboring her customers’ other preferred shopping and dining destinations.

The property, owned by Montgomery Management, is close to newly refurbished Hollywood power restaurant Le Dome and hotels such as the Mondrian and The Standard.

Stein co-owns On Sunset with actress Lauralee Bell, a star of daytime soap “The Young and the Restless.” Stein has been on the forefront of Southern California retailing since the 1970s, when she opened the Ron Ross womenswear store in Tarzana. In 1987, she launched her own shop, Shawna Stein, in the Beverly Center.

The Bernini Corp. purchased Stein’s Beverly Center store in 1996 and hired her as president of and buyer for the store. In 2000, she left the company because of creative differences and opened On Beverly.

On Sunset will carry the same lines Stein stocked at On Beverly, including Roberto Cavalli, Cavalli Class, Blumarine, Y & Kei, Anna Molinari, Barbara Bui, Plein Sud Jeans, Jean Paul Gaultier, Transit, Moschino and Rene Lazard.
