Hong Kong Fashion Week

HONG KONG—Branding was on the minds of Hong Kong Fashion Week organizers, who presented six runway events showcasing Hong Kong designers and other Asian creative forces during the four-day trade show, held July 13–16 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exposition Centre.

The Brand Collections Show focused on Hong Kong labels Amanda Darling, Kalizz and Lafei Nier. The show’s casualwear revealed lots of whimsical color, from fuchsia, lime and lilac to candy-colored stripes. The silhouettes tended toward body-hugging looks that highlighted curves, with lots of exposed skin. There were low-cut skirts and pants, cropped trousers, very short shorts, and tops that barely made it to the waist.

Fashion turned elegant when two top Hong Kong designers hit the catwalk in a show called Modern Mystique. Ika, whose Hong Kong company has been around since the 1980s, presented an elegant collection of beautiful white embroidered blouses paired with pencil-leg gray trousers, as well as dresses dripping with lace. William Tang’s label, Come Gin, presented men’s suits with a different flair and womenswear cut with a certain imaginative men’s look.

Korean designers took center stage in the Supreme Corea Artist Fashion Shows.

The fashion shows ended with the presentation of the Hong Kong New Fashion Collection awards for up-and-coming designers.
