Hot Topic Gets New Warehouse

City of Industry, Calif.–based specialty retailer Hot Topic Inc. chose a site near Nashville, Tenn., for its national distribution center, which will be completed in about a year. The mall-based retailer, which currently has nearly 600 units, signed a 10-year lease with Crescent Resources LLC for a lot in LaVergne, Tenn.

Hot Topic will build a 300,000- square-foot facility and has an option for another 200,000 square feet. The company also has a limited option to purchase the property. The facility is expected to be completed by next spring.

“The new distribution facility is needed to meet the growing demands that are a result of the company’s increasing sales and continued growth. This is another important milestone for Hot Topic that will enable us to be more efficient in our distribution operations and better serve our customers,” said company Chief Executive Officer Betsy McLaughlin in a statement.

Hot Topic plans to open 80 stores this year in addition to 20 Torrid stores, its plus-size concept for young women. The company posted $572 million in revenues last year. —R.M.
