Chip & Pepper at Bloomingdale's

Actor Jason London was rumored to be at the Beverly Center’s Bloomingdale’s, but it was Chip and Pepper Foster, founders of the Chip & Pepper denim line and owners of Los Angeles boutique Golf Punk, who were mobbed by autograph seekers on the department store’s third floor at a March 11 party that introduced the designers to their customers.

As hip-wiggling classic disco music played in the background, the identical twins signed T-shirts and jeans from their recently launched denim collection. Although the reception had all the trappings of a rock band’s album release party, Pepper Foster said the emphasis was on their fans. “There are no stars here, just cool people,” he said.

Goofy humor seems to be the Fosters’ guiding principle. The Canadian-born brothers had a line of Chip & Pepper T-shirts and were the hosts of their own cartoon show— titled “Chip and Pepper’s Cartoon Madness”—back in their native country before they moved to Los Angeles to open the Golf Punk store on Melrose Avenue.

“Golf is establishment. Punk is anti-establishment,” Pepper said. “Golf punk should bubble up in a couple of years.”
