Rip Curl Gets Into PLM

Surfwear maker Rip Curl Australia Pty Ltd. has purchased product lifecycle management (PLM) software from Canadian software company Geac Computer Corp. Ltd.

Rip Curl, which has its U.S. headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., hopes to reduce its time to market by using the new PLM system, called RunTime. The company intends to use the software to manage product concept, design, raw material supply, production, distribution and logistics worldwide.

Rip Curl previously installed the software for its operations in France and experienced positive results, said Dominic O’Hanlon, chief executive officer of Geac’s Australian/New Zealand region. “The ability of Geac RunTime to deliver massive improvements in apparel product time to market while significantly reducing operational costs were major reasons for our success at Rip Curl,” he said.

The system provides its partners with access to one source of design data and incorporates process work-flow capabilities that automatically update all parties when changes are made to garment designs.

RunTime operates either in a distributed or centralized environment. It runs on Intel servers and can interface with most enterprise resource planning and financial software systems. The software runs on multiple databases and can work in a PC or Apple Macintosh client environment. —Robert McAllister
