By the Light of the Tiki

A few well-placed tikis proved to be the perfect backdrop for the runway at the California Resortwear Show, put on by One Box Productions. This event’s fashion show, held Sept. 28 at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Hotel in Newport Beach, Calif., naturally emphasized an island theme, but the clothing showed new directions from the old kahunas of resortwear.

Crochet tops and miniskirts from Litoral Brasil, based in Satilde;o Paulo, Brazil, mixed the mod and the natural. Loco Lindo, based in Los Angeles, meshed Aloha-inspired skirts with knotted tops for a contemporary look. Comfort was a prerequisite for these warm-weather clothes, but sex appeal was also important, as in the case of a sundress by Los Angeles–based Spirit Inc.
