International Visitors Up, U.S. Attendance Down at Lyon, Mode City

Overall attendance was down slightly at the recent Lyon, Mode City and Interfiliegrave;re shows in Lyon, France.

Attendance overall dropped 0.88 percent to 19,778, due in part to an 8.5 percent decrease in French visitors, who numbered 8,738 this year. Show organizers attributed the decrease to shifts in retail channels among French boutiques but noted that it was offset by increases among international exhibitors.

International attendance grew by 6.1 percent to 11,040. The top four countries attending the shows were Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Germany. Buyer attendance from Japan and Hong Kong significantly increased. But U.S. attendance dropped by 9.3 percent to 433.

The show featured 1,000 swim and lingerie labels and 390 textile mills.

This year, the show also added The International Consumers’ TV Platform, a forum for attendees and experts to discuss issues such as niche markets and new segments, innovations and how to capitalize on them at the consumer level, and global differences in the lingerie market. —Alison A. Nieder
