Lectra Orders Up at CISMA

Asian apparel manufacturers appear to be adopting technology at a rapid pace as they gear up for quota-free trading, which will begin next January. One of the main suppliers for the Asian contingent is Lectra, which experienced one of its best CISMA (China International Sewing Machinery & Accessories) shows last week in Shanghai.

The French supplier of cutting-room equipment and design software reported that it received more than $6 million in orders at this year’s show, 50 percent more than the company garnered during the 2003 event. Lectra is the technology market leader in greater China, owning more than one-third of the market. Daniel Moreau, executive vice president, said the company will try to double its revenues in China during the next two years and grow its market share there to 45 percent. “We will continue to boost value through our team’s commitment to anticipating our customers’ present and future needs and through our capacity to share our experience with them,” he said.

Moreau said Lectra is staying on the cutting edge with products such as its new TitaniumFashion single-ply cutting system, shown at CISMA 2004.

The company also rolled out a new version of its Alys pattern plotter and marker-making solution, equipped with new AlysPilot software. The new generation product is designed for use with almost all CAD/CAM systems currently on the market. Lectra said the product will reduce time spent checking patterns, regardless of what brand of software the pattern is made with and where the plotter printouts are produced.

At CISMA, Lectra also announced that the China National Institute of Standardization will conduct a sizing survey using Lectra body scanners. The goal of the project is to establish a database and provide a foundation for future developments in the Chinese domestic apparel industry. —R.M.
