New Denim Line Tacto Heads to West Coast

The owners of Tacto, a newly launched contemporary denim line, are looking to set up shop on the West Coast. The brand is based in Boston, but owners Christopher Loughlin and Juan Carlos Posada are trying to establish a base in denim-friendly Los Angeles with a manufacturer representative.

Posada produces the line in Colombia at his family-owned factory, the same factory that produces Diesel jeans. The target consumer is the 25- to 45-year-old woman looking for superior fit and style.

Tacto consists of three cuts: a vintage-rinse straight-cut style with a medium rise (7 1/2 nches); a slightly flared pant with a low rise (7 inches); and a raw denim–finish flared style with a medium rise. All styles have a 2 percent stretch factor.

Wholesale price points range from $42 to $46.

The emphasis is on fit. Posada and Loughlin said they did extensive research to determine the type of cuts their target consumer was looking for. They developed cuts that let out a little bit at the knee area and designed subtle flaring and various rises.

The jeans feature no labeling but come colorcoded with a strip of black or white near the coin pocket. The White Line, which features classic styling, is currently available, and the more fashion- forward Black Line will be delivered next year. All the pants are cut on a 33-inch inseam.

“A lot of the high-end denim on the market is over-stylized right now. We want to be the classic denim for that group,” said company spokesperson Jody Green.

Creative Director Ara Katz said the company is attempting to establish the brand in boutiques by offering no minimums and inventory replacement within 48 hours.

“These are great for the girl just out of college looking for denim to wear to work or to wear with a blazer,” Green said.
