CMC Lifts Curtain on Second Floor

Los Angeles International Textile Show visitors along with prospective and existing California Market Center tenants glimpsed the building’s new updated/ contemporary apparel showcase, 2A, during an openingnight party on Oct. 18 in the newly renovated design area.

The 20,000-squarefoot work-in-progress is set to officially open during the Oct. 29–Nov. 2 run of Los Angeles Fashion Market. Yet, visitors got an idea of the space’s look: clean walls with mood lighting and “architectural zones,” in addition to big doors with 72-inch pulls and a lounge area with lighted end tables and modern furniture.

CMC Leasing Director Megan Griffith said the aim is to attract the new traffic coming to Los Angeles from New York and Europe.

“L.A.’s the hub of business, and there’s demand for showroom space,” Griffith said. “All of the markets are experiencing traffic growth, so we want to attract the newcomers.”

Architect Alex Suarez of Los Angeles– based Wirt Design Group Inc. said his designers and CMC officials wanted to create an easy-to-navigate space that “creates a narrative” and a sense of arrival through wall graphics, light boxes and openness. “The [CMC] wanted an exciting and fresh space that reflects the energy of this business,” he said.

“We’re very pleased and excited about this. This is a transformation which is much more modern and is what the mix of fashion and style is all about,” added CMC General Manager Paul Lentz. —Robert McAllister
