Veteran sales representative Diana Buckroyd is back in business with a new showroom called Aire, located in the Cooper Design Space in Los Angeles.

The former rep, who spent 10 years at Terry Sahagan Sales in The New Mart, took a year off to have a baby girl. Having conquered the on-going job of being a mom, Buckroyd gained the ambition to launch her own business. “I think I have an eye for trends, and being in the business for so long has allowed me to establish solid relationships with buyers,” she said.

Buckroyd is mostly focusing on local better/contemporary labels. To get started, she is selling six lines.

Krisa, priced in the $17 to $40 wholesale range, features knit and woven tops and bottoms in bubblegum colors such as pink and green. Jill Michell is a feminine sweater and dress collection priced from $40 to $140. Abeille Lign is a feminine cashmere-knit line priced from $70 to $160.

Non-apparel lines include Judy Adelson, a jewelry line featuring 18- and 22-karat gold with semiprecious and precious stones; Rapp & Posavek, a leather handbag and belt collection featuring antique hardware; and Marmel, a vintage-inspired luggage line made with distressed leather that has been an exclusive at Maxfield on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

The showroom is rough, with stone walls and concrete flooring, but Buckroyd is planning to add mahogany flooring and create a clean and open sales floor.

“I hope to be a one-stop shop where buyers can find everything for his or her store. I love the [Cooper Design Space]. I think it’s going to be the next New Mart. There’s a buzz about this place,” she said. —Robert McAllister
