Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: 2 B Free

There is no sibling rivalry between the Benaroch brothers—Yves, 24, and Cedric, 23— who grew up in Los Angeles. The two work well together to create their line, 2 B Free, which is three parts sportswear and one part fashion. On Oct. 25, they unveiled their Spring 2005 collection at a posh home just north of Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, Calif.

The evening was more reminiscent of a party for hipsters than a fashion show, but eventually everyone gathered around the pool, where a runway had been placed over the water for models to display the collection.

The latest line took many of its cues from the label’s Winter collection. There were low-rise sweat outfits that came with dip-dyed and paint-splattered treatments, as well as design imprints that varied from the brothers’ signature fleurs-de-lis to koi.

Cedric said there was no particular theme to the collection but he wanted the line to have “bright, hot funky colors and cool prints and cool designs.” The colors, indeed, were bright, with plenty of magenta, emerald green, mango, orange, red and hot pink.

Added to the Spring collection were more denim pants, from three-button jeans to five-pocket styles.

For the men’s line, there were denim jeans and cargo pants, but the collection also stepped up a notch with suit jackets whose lapels were screen-printed with stylish designs.

The show ended with a couture hand-painted button-down dress, indicating that the brothers might be branching out in a different direction. —Deborah Belgum
