Los Angeles Fashion Week Spring '05: Samora

For her third show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Los Angeles designer Samora Olayan blended girlish details with grown-up sexiness and added a dash of ethnic detail.

The Oct. 26 show featured girly shades of pink and other pastels. Styles included high-waisted shorts and skirts, closecropped jackets, wrap dresses and tops, lace-up dresses, and ribbon-tied sailor pants.

The designer also showed baby-doll tops and dresses and a polka-dot group with a vintage feel. A pale-pink halter dress was rendered in stripes of silk and cotton. Two white dresses were trimmed in jewel-embroidered ribbon for a Mediterranean look. For evening, the designer layered black chiffon over lavender and red for flirty cocktail dresses and offered fluid satin suitings in powder pink and candy-apple red.

“My ideal woman is more forward; she’s not afraid to put something on and be an initiator, not a follower,” Olayan said. “She is someone who has a sense of style and wants to stand out in a crowd.” —A.A.N.
