San Francisco Fashion Week '04: Lily Samii

It was all sparkle and glamour at Lily Samii’s show, which closed the week’s events. Samii has been designing and producing her gowns for the past 10 years in her San Francisco facility and selling them from her Union Square atelier and in Saks Fifth Avenue’s San Francisco store. On the runway, the designer showed elaborate gowns in iridescent cross-dyed taffeta and fluttery chiffon, embellished with embroidery and elaborate beading. The best looks included a chocolate wrap dress with red lining and sequined appliqueacute;s, a gathered gown in layers of pink chiffon, and a gold floor-length gown with inset gold lace. Samii also included a few daytime looks, notably a dress and a suit in avocado with frayed-edge reverse seams and a classic tweed suit paired with a tie-neck blouse in avocado. —Alison N. Nieder
