Tukatech Goes 3-D With New Sim Tools
Los Angeles–based CAD/CAM company Tukatech Inc. has rolled out a new series of 3-D tools aimed at speeding up apparel product development. The E-Fit Simulator and the 3D Motion Simulator allow garment makers to drape a two-dimensional pattern over a 3-D image that can be moved and controlled. This helps designers conduct virtual fitting sessions and perceive how their finished products will look, said the company.
The technology works in real time. Virtual models can walk, turn, bend, stretch and even somersault, according to Tukatech executives. Tukatech Product Development Manager Iva Sareen, who has a background in physics, created the system in-house.
“It is pure physics,” Sareen said. “The simulation of fabrics colliding with the human body and the real-time effects of each movement are so realistic that these models can be used for virtual fashion shows.”
She added that the system can incorporate bone structure to create more lifelike features and give designers an idea of how a garment will react during movement.
The simulators are being marketed as addon applications to Tukatech’s CAD product, TUKAcad.NET Suite, but can also work with all industry-standard CAD systems that have 2-D flat-pattern, image and fabric properties and the ability to utilize 3-D scanned or morphed models.
The E-Fit Simulator costs $4,500. The 3-D Motion Simulator sells for $7,500.
Tukatech can also develop dress forms using 3-D body-scanned data.
