WTO Levies Tariffs

The United States may have to pay an estimated $150 million per year in punitive tariffs because it neglected to eliminate a corporate subsidy on U.S. goods after the World Trade Association ruled the subsidy illegal two years ago, according to a recent report in the Los Angeles Times. The subsidy was related to the Byrd Amendment, which can be used to redistribute tariffs collected in a trade dispute to the U.S. companies affected by the dispute.
