Wholesale Venture Brings Clothing to Tall Women

Simpatico LLC has opened up its tall women’s clothing business to wholesalers.

For the past three years, the company, which caters to women 5 feet 10 inches and taller, had sold clothing exclusively through its Web site, www.simpaticofashions.com. Now, Simpatico has freshened up its line with the help of New York design company Design Influence Inc. and has broadened its distribution by opening to the wholesale trade.

“In a perfect world, it would be best if tall women had the luxury of going to a store and being able to try things on just as the average-height woman does every day,” said Simpatico owner Wendy Curnow. The company, based in Mt. Arlington, N.J., will still maintain its Web operations.

“We wanted to give tall women quality apparel that they can have fun with,” Curnow said. “It is all how you look at clothing. You can see it for what it is or break out of the norm and wear it in ways you never thought of.”

Simpatico makes garments cut in proportion to a tall figure, not garments that just add extra material to the sleeves, body and inseams.

The line consists of slacks with a 37- inch inseam and a 2-inch hem that allows customers to tailor the garments to their individual needs. “It is easier to take away material than it is to add,” Curnow explained.

The company plans to grow by only a few pieces each season so that it can handle growth in customer service.
