Los Angeles Urban Fashion Week will showcase about 20 apparel designers April 8–10 at various venues throughout the city.

Events will take place at the Century Club in Century City on opening night, at the Petersen Automotive Museum on the next evening and at a private club on Melrose Avenue on the last night.

Lines to be featured include Clover G, designed by Sony artist Lil’ Flip; Billy Bad Ass Clothing; Kay Jay, an urban line from Japan; Marika Clothing; DePEC; Debonair Clothing; Ruff Ryders; Atwear; MLM; Covet; Jasmin Blue; Pink Mafia; Jaire; No Ral 2010; TMC Fashion; Rights!; N Deajai; and Bougie styles.

Shakur of Makaveli Clothing will receive the Designer of the Year Award. Other awards will be presented to the best stylist and the best men’s and women’s designers.

Radio and VH1 television personality Wendy Williams will host the events. Parties will take place on all nights. The April 9 event at the Petersen museum will be set amid historic automobiles formerly owned by Howard Hughes, Marilyn Monroe and others. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Kid’s Designer Work Shop, a program that allows disadvantaged youth to participate in a two-week summer program on fashion design.

Following the Los Angeles event, the first New York Urban Fashion Week will take place May 4–7 at the New Yorker Hotel.

Show organizers are seeking up-and-coming designers for the next edition. The event also includes an apparel trade show.
