A Reversible Twist to Feminine, Funky Style

House of Moyeacute; designer Marguerite Moyeacute; is a firecracker of energy with a contemporary line that is as versatile as her personal style. While presenting her debut Spring 2005 collection of bright, pretty floral skirts and her Fall 2005 collection of rich brocade jackets at a showroom in downtown Los Angeles, Moyeacute; was dressed in a mix of ’50s chic and rocker wear, sporting a cute cardigan with crystal buttons, an enormous skull-and-crossbones belt buckle and a thick leather watch. The two styles—flirty and funky—also apply to House of Moyeacute;, a line that is highlighted by reversible skirts and jackets.

For the line’s second season, House of Moyeacute; emphasizes a limited number of eclectic, versatile items, including reversible coats and pants with ornate detachable belts. Moyeacute; brings reversibility to the popular puffed-sleeve Victorian jacket, with one side a monotone berry purple or soft brown and the other side a plaid or paisley print accented by the primary color. The designer puts special touches on an olive/black traditional blazer, adding a tie front to facilitate the reversibility and tiny floral piping to trim the edges and pockets on the opposite side.

Vintage-inspired details are seen throughout the collection, including washed-silk trim on a pleated skirt and brooch-like buttons on a coat. The coat’s cut-in textural upholstery fabric gives the piece a subtle vintage appeal that complements the modern fit.

“My inspiration is old meets new. I like the design aspect and detailing of an older garment, but I like to trash it up and make it deconstructed or take a serious fabric and put it in something that’s not so serious,” said Moyeacute; of the raw edges on her coats.

The fabrications of the jackets, skirts and pants cater to the Los Angeles weather. Houndstooth and herringbone prints are cut in soft and flexible cotton instead of wool. Novelty camisole tops come in silk rayon blends and silk chiffon with sequins.

Wholesale price points are $96 for baggy herringbone pants, $110 for the all-cotton Victorian coat and $179 for a long houndstooth coat with a ruffled collar.

Moyeacute; designed for the label Marylou before launching her line with business partner Veronica Correa. The pair plans to expand House of Moyeacute; slowly while picking up a following from sophisticated women who crave offbeat ladylike pieces.

“I design for that hip older woman,” Moyeacute; said. “Maybe she’s a funky soccer mom who wants something sweet but sassy.”
