Counterfeit Plea

A Newport Beach man pleaded guilty to selling counterfeit designer merchandise out of his home, answering federal charges of trafficking in counterfeit goods, according to the U.S. attorney’s office in Santa Ana, Calif. Terry Smith was arrested last year when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents seized more than 800 items from his home, including handbags, wallets, belts and other leather goods marked with the names and logos of companies such as Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci. According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Smith ran advertisements for Designer Goods Sales in community fliers. Smith faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and fines of up to $4 million.
