Stony, BCBG, True Religion Reap Awards

It’s awards season and a number of California-based resources came away with accolades at two national events.

Los Angeles–based Stony Apparel/Great Escape Manufacturing Corp. received an award for excellence in apparel manufacturing scheduled during Apparel magazine’s annual All-Star Awards on Nov. 10 at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Stony/Great Escape partners Steve Maiman and Tony Litman were on the slate for the event, which also honored Bills Khakis, Chico’s FAS Inc., Columbia Sportswear Co., FesslerUSA, Gerson & Gerson Inc., Harry Rosen Inc., Jones Apparel Group Inc., Mothers Work Inc. and Redcats USA.

Stony/Great Escape produces the Eyeshadow and Great Escape lines of junior and girls’ sportswear. The California Fashion Association nominated the company.

Maiman said he and Litman were honored to receive the award. The company has been in business for 20 years.

“We just do what we do best and not try to be everything to everyone,” Maiman said. “We try to stay true to ourselves and to our customers.”

The pair also received the 2003 TALA Friendship Award from the Textile Association of Los Angeles, and Maiman was named Man of the Year in 1999 by the Fashion Industries Guild of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

At the 30th annual Dallas Fashion Awards, held Oct. 30 at Dallas’ International Apparel Mart, California companies BCBG Max Azria and True Religion were among those recognized for business excellence.

BCBG was honored as best contemporary line, while True Religion was recognized as best denim line. Retailers voted on the categories during recent markets.

Other winners included Michael Simon (accessories), Chetta B (after 5), Alberto Makali (bridge/designer), Le Top (childrenswear), Barse (jewelry) and Bentley A (modern wear). Nat Nast was awarded the Best of Men’s Award, recognizing excellence in the men’s apparel and accessories category. Julian Gold received a special Retail Excellence Award, which was established to acknowledge leading retailers in the fashion industry that set a high standard of performance.
