New Board, New Goals for FGI

Jen Uner, co-creator of the L.A. Fashion Awards, and Margaret Schell, co-owner of fashion public relations firm SPR, were named regional director and regional director elect of the Fashion Group International of Los Angeles.

In the coming year, the organization will work to expand its membership by hosting events and improving communications, according to Uner. FGI-LA has about 300 active members and an outreach list of nearly 2,000 industry professionals, including designers, retailers, marketers and manufacturers.

FGI-LA was founded in 1935 and is an arm of Fashion Group International, a nonprofit professional organization that counts its membership at 6,000 worldwide.

Among the local group’s efforts is its FGI-LA Foundation Scholarship Fund. Now in its 20th year, the FGI-LA Foundation has awarded more than 200 scholarships to students from more than 30 fashion and merchandising schools throughout Southern California.

Other newly elected FBI-LA executive board members include Chrome Hearts’ Rose Marie Richmond, who will serve as treasurer; Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising Department Chair Roni Miller Start, who serves as treasurer elect; designer Karen Hurley, who will serve as secretary and MML PR’s Merritt Loughran, who will serve as secretary elect.

Committee members include Stacey Walker King, Helen Litt, Jamie Novick, Jane Walker Meade, Amanda Sheronas, Barbara Woo, Lisa Davis, Jane Engelman and Linda B. Tucker.

The FGI-LA Foundation officers include Edie Locke, president; Meg Rottman, vice president; Jane Putch, secretary and Sylvia Sheppard, treasurer.
