Hail to the Fashion Chief

The Fashion Industries Guild of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center will bestow the “Man of the Year” award later this year on Kenneth Weinbaum, FIG’s president for the past 15 years and vice president of sales and marketing for Chicago-based QST Industries Inc.

The organization’s 50th annual fund-raising gala will take place Oct. 7 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills. A special, as yet unnamed, pediatric program at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center will be the event’s beneficiary.

QST Industries is a supplier of components for men’s, women’s and children’s apparel. The company’s products include pocketings, linings, interlinings, waistbands, elastics, die and table-cut components, bias bindings and home-furnishing fabrics.

Weinbaum is an active member of the California apparel industry and is a board member of the Textile Association of Los Angeles.

“Since Kenny took over as president [of FIG] 15 years ago, we have raised $8 million under his leadership,” said Hal Kaltman, FIG’s executive vice president and owner of Hal Kaltman Textiles. “He’s totally and completely dedicated to the Guild.”

The timing of Weinbaum’s nomination to coincide with a major FIG milestone is not an accident. “Considering this is our 50th anniversary, the timing was perfect for Kenny to be recognized,” Kaltman said.

The Guild is hoping the anniversary and Weinbaum’s high profile will help make the gala a success. “In all my years of knowing and working with Kenny, I have never heard one negative comment about him,” Kaltman said.

To mark the special anniversary, FIG is contacting past honorees and presidents to have them take part in the celebration.

Founded in 1956, FIG has raised more than $20 million for special programs at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
