From Asia With Style
HONG KONG—Fashions from all over Asia graced the catwalk at Hong Kong Fashion Week, held July 11–14 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Designers such as Indonesian-born Ika and Vietnam native Minh Khoa presented their Spring/Summer 2007 collections to a packed audience.
South Korean designers held two fashion shows, giving a sweeping view of styles created by seven young artists whose silhouettes ranged from traditional long skirts to short shorts worn with boots.
Ika took her cue from the psychedelic ’60s with electric colors that bounced off the runway. She integrated laser-cut fabrics into skirts and dresses that had tie-dyed accents. Part of the collection revolved around more subdued tones with black, brown and white forming the main color schemes. But batik-influenced designs made skirts and dresses come alive.
Khoa, who lives in Ho Chi Minh City, works mostly in silk. Everything is handmade and formed out of tiered fabric that looks as delicate as a wedding cake.
The collection, presented by Champaign International Enterprises of Hong Kong, was dominated by glitter and layered elements. Lameacute;-like gold and silver tops were paired with white shorts or slacks. Sparkly accents were added to tiered tops, pants and dresses. —Deborah Belgum
