Haute Couture and High-Tech

Attendees at the World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing in Toronto were treated to a fashion show July 13 that featured designer fashions of a compostable fabric made from corn sugar. All the designer apparel—including clothing by Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Stephen Burrows, Heatherette and Elisa Jimenez—were of Ingeo fabric, which is made from a compostable biopolymer made from dextrose corn sugar, called polylactide. On display at the conference were designs made from Ingeo by Linda Loudermilk, Teija Eloila, Kei Kagami, Nadia Fassi, Bagutta and others.
