The Intersection Party Set for October Fashion Week

Members of The Intersection are planning a major party for buyers attending the Spring 2007 Los Angeles Fashion Market, which will run Oct. 20–24, immediately following the runway shows of Los Angeles Fashion Week.

The Intersection, which is made up of the owners of the four fashion buildings at 9th and Los Angeles streets, as well as the organizers of the Designers & Agents show and the Los Angeles Fashion District, met on June 8 and decided to spend $120,000 for a fecirc;te that will open market week on the evening of Oct. 20.

“It is going to celebrate all the great activity that happens here at market week,” said Kent Smith, executive director of the Los Angeles Fashion District, a business improvement district. “Our plans are to continue this as an annual event.”

Smith said the idea has been brewing since the beginning of the year, but the members wanted to make sure they had the funds to host an event that would put its mark on the annual October market. They hope part of the funding comes from sponsorships.

“We are very excited about this,” said Steve Hirsh, owner of the Cooper Design Space, an Intersection member. “The Intersection’s purpose is to heighten and promote the image of the Los Angeles fashion industry, and we wanted to acknowledge the buyers who join us for market.”

Other Intersection members include the owners of the California Market Center, The New Mart and the Gerry Building.

Party details still haven’t been worked out, but one option is to put up a huge tent near the intersection of 9th and Los Angeles streets.

“There are some logistical issues about closing the street,” Smith said, “but it is certainly an alternative.” —Deborah Belgum
