Barneys, H&M Announce New California Stores

San Francisco will be the address of a flagship department store for Barneys New York, according to a company statement released June 27. On the same day, The Irvine Company announced that Swedish fast-fashion retailer H&M had signed a lease to open a store at the Irvine Spectrum Center in Irvine, Calif.

An Irvine Company representative said the Spectrum H&M would be adjacent to the Nordstrom and Target stores. No other information on the project was given. A representative of the Swedish retailer confirmed the signing of the lease. The store will open sometime in 2007.

Barneys New York will open a 60,000-square-foot flagship store in San Francisco at 48 Stockton St., next to the Union Square retail district. It is scheduled to open in fall 2007. Barneys Chief Executive Howard Socol said the retail mix at the San Francisco flagship would be similar to other Barneys New York stores. —Andrew Asch
