Paul Davril Does Battle With Spammers

Los Angeles–based manufacturer Paul Davril Inc. is putting up a fight against the swarm of spammers, hackers, viruses, spyware, etc.

The company, which is licensed to make Kenneth Cole sportswear and Ecko Red womenswear, has offices on both coasts as well as international locations and was facing up to 400 incidents of malware, spyware and other problems per week. Its IT staff spent about 30 hours per week cleaning up computers and fixing other associated problems.

After saying enough is enough, the company aligned with San Mateo, Calif.–based security firm ScanSafe and installed its Web scanning system, which is capable of processing more than 3 billion Web requests monthly to identify and stop viruses. It scans content to block viruses and malware in real time, as opposed to URL filtering, which relies on static URL databases that are only updated once problems have been identified.

The system also identifies threats based on unusual traffic features, allows Paul Davril to review statistics of all viruses captured, and provides automated reports on overall traffic, bandwidth, blocked URLs and blocked Web viruses. It also offers other customizable reports that can be generated daily to provide information on specific areas of interest, such as top-10 sites by virus activity.

“The managed services solution was attractive from the outset because it didn’t require our own resources to install and manage equipment and software across both our New York and Los Angeles offices,” said Robert Praul, project manager for Paul Davril.
